Chronical inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD)
The prevalence of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) is particularly high in Western countries:
It affects about 3 out of 1,000 people in North America, Oceania and many European countries1 . In emerging countries, numbers are growing together with urbanization. Although bacterial, fungal and viral dysbiosis have been described in patients with IBD, it is not yet known whether they are the cause or the consequence of the disease. Or do they play a role in the onset, maintenance or severity of inflammation, thus giving rise to a vicious circle?
