About us

As a pioneer in microbiota research, Biocodex launched, in 2017, the Biocodex Microbiota Institute, a non-promotional hub of knowledge dedicated to microbiota. An editorial committee

Scientific integrity drives the Biocodex Microbiota Institute. Once a month, the Institute’s editorial committee selects a range of scientific publications for a weekly news publication.

The editorial committee is guided in its choice by the scientific quality of the articles, their clarity of exposition and their relevance to the microbiota field covered by the Institute. The editorial committee makes the final decision regarding the publication and selects, each week, articles in high-impact factor newspapers. We provide healthcare professionals and the lay public with accurate and 100% sourced content.

Written by people for people

All contents available on the Institute’s website (articles, infographics, CME course, Microbiota Mag, experts’ videos, images…) are written by human beings.

There is no content generated from AI programs, machine learning, or similar algorithmic tools. We work with independent scientific journalists and editors specializing in the microbiota field. The Institute’s editorial charter provides our scientific journalist robust and valuable resources to maintain the highest standards of our editorial practice.

The Microbiota Mag

On top of that, the Microbiota Mag, an expert magazine for microbiota experts.

Available in 5 languages (French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian), the Microbiota Mag is published three times a year. This tool gives the floor to international experts who comment on research advances regarding microbiota and their impact on human health. Since 2023, Microbiota Mag offers researchers the opportunity to publish an original sum-up of their article with an innovative and evidence-based showing a clear link between gut microbiota and health and diseases.

Engagement

We fully support global health causes related to microbiota and are heavily supported by international associations.

IBS, endometriosis, overweight, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, anxiety disorders, cancer, but also antibiotic resistance… Many health issues and concerns related to microbiota transcend national boundaries and require collaboration between researchers, patients’ associations and medical societies from across the world. That’s the reason why the Institute is endorsed by worldwide medical societies and patients ‘associations such as:

Here are some examples of our engagement:

World AMR Awareness Week

• Held on 18–24 November since 2015 by the WHO, the World AMR Awareness Week aims to increase awareness of this global phenomenon and encourage the general public, healthcare professionals and decision-makers to use antibiotics carefully, to prevent the further emergence of antimicrobial resistance.

• Each year, the Biocodex Microbiota Institute plays an active role in this initiative, producing and sharing exclusive content throughout November on the impact of antimicrobials on the gut microbiota.

IBS Awareness Month

• To mark IBS Awareness Month, the Biocodex Microbiota Institute launched “Patient Stories”, a series of video testimonials from patients suffering from chronic diseases. The first episodes have been produced with the support of the French Association of Irritable Bowel Syndrome Patients (APSSII).

• Most IBS patients share a bumpy care path: failure to diagnose, a lack of reliable information, unsuccessful treatments, inappropriate or even harmful dietary changes. This is why three internationally renowned gastroenterologists, with the support of the Biocodex Microbiota Institute, have developed a guide to improve IBS diagnosis. This practical and innovative tool provides an easy-to-use checklist for differential diagnosis (diagnostic criteria, IBS subtypes, checklist of warning signs, etc.) and to improve communication with patients.

Endometriosis Awareness Month

• Each year, in France, the Microbiota Institute and the Fondation pour la Recherche sur l'Endométriose (the foundation for research into endometriosis) run a campaign to raise awareness among the general public and healthcare professionals about the possible links between the microbiota and endometriosis.

• To mark Endometriosis Awareness Month, the Microbiota Institute is handing the floor to three experts in this condition. What are the symptoms? How is it diagnosed? What care is available? Is it linked to the microbiota? All your questions answered in this article.
